At the WES, on November 8th we were part of a group trying to break a Guinness world record of "most people sport stacking at multiple locations in one day". We broke last year's record! We are in the Guinness World Record books. Nice job 4th graders!
The month of February is Heart Health Awareness month. Students at the WES participated in fundraiser for the American Heart Association. As a school for the 2018-2019 year we as a school raised $8,000! Thank you to all who donated. All "thank you gifts" have been sent home with students.
Each year students in Westport participate in what is the "Greater Fall River Fitness Challenge". The Challenge this year was to develop and carry out an innovative initiative that will address the social and/or emotional wellness of students in support of the 12 th Annual Greater Fall River Fitness Challenge, the longest continuously running program of its kind in the country! The 5 greater Fall River health/physical education teachers who develop and carry out the most successful SEL initiatives within their schools will receive prize money to supplement their school’s physical education program budget.
This year we used an "Inside Out" theme from the Disney Pixar movie. We did a variety of lessons around the movie dealing with feelings and emotions. I have also added a "check in/check out chart on the doors to see how each student is doing on the way in and way out of class. Students have been having fun "learning about themselves".
WE WON SECOND PLACE! CONGRATS to all!
